Curtailing Adelaide’s rebounding defenders will be a major focus for Richmond in Saturday night’s big clash at Adelaide Oval.

The Tigers are fully aware that the run out of the Crows’ back half, provided by the likes of Brodie Smith and David Mackay, is a pivotal part of their team structure and planning.

“These two guys (Smith and Mackay) are super important for them,” said Richmond assistant coach Danny Daly on this week’s ‘Roar Vision Spotlight’.

“They’re a big turnover side, so we’ve just got to make sure we take away their ability to run from half-back and get involved through handballing.

“Unfortunately, at times, we’re going to turn the footy over, but we’ve just got to make sure that they don’t get through the chains, and get through with metres gained, which is a big one for them as well . . .

“The second part of it is our ball control.

“When we’ve got the footy, we just can’t bomb it in there.  We’ve got to be controlled with our ball usage and, obviously, marks inside 50, is going to be a big one for us.

“Another key thing will be if we can take away their rebounding ability and get our half-forwards involved . . . with Brett Deledio and Shane Edwards, make them defend (against us).

“Our boys are in pretty good nick as well, so it’s going to be a battle of the in-form players, I think, as to who comes out and has the intensity to play the way they want to play.”
