Not only does Richmond’s current playing group possess the most AFL premiership experience of any club in the competition, so too does the Tigers’ coaching panel.
The Richmond coaches have a veritable plethora of premierships among them at the game’s highest level.
Damien Hardwick has been an integral part of five AFL premierships – two as a player with both Essendon and Port Adelaide, one as an assistant to Alastair Clarkson at Hawthorn, and now two as the Tigers’ head coach.
Justin Leppitsch also has five premierships to his credit – three as a player for Brisbane and two as an assistant coach at Tigerland.
Craig McRae also is a triple Brisbane premiership player, as well as a dual Richmond premiership development coach.
Adam Kingsley was a member of Port Adelaide’s inaugural 2004 AFL premiership side, and a premiership assistant coach in his first season with the Tigers this year.
Andrew McQualter is now a two-time Richmond premiership assistant coach, while development coaches Xavier Clarke and Ryan Ferguson have two Tiger flags on their coaching CV’s.
And, if you throw in Richmond General Manager of Football Neil Balme’s AFL Grand Final-winning record for good measure, you can see just how well off the Tigers are when it comes to off-field premiership experience.
Balme has been involved with seven premierships in the competition – two as a player at Richmond, three as Geelong’s head of football, and two in his current role with the Tigers.
