Hard-running Richmond midfielder Shaun Grigg has taken his game to another level early in season 2017.
Grigg, who turns 29 on Wednesday (April 19), was arguably best afield in the Tigers’ 52-point win against Brisbane at the Gabba last Sunday.
He finished with 31 disposals, including a game-high 11 score involvements, game-high nine inside-50s, game-high four goal assists, team-high three centre clearances, plus six marks, four tackles, and a team-high 586 metres gained.
Four rounds into the season, Grigg is averaging 24.0 disposals, 4.8 marks, 3.8 tackles, and he’s played a significant role in Richmond’s revival through his consistent ball-winning ability, strong run and creativity.
Among the Tigers’ playing group, he is ranked No. 3 for disposals, No. 3 for inside-50s, equal No. 3 for marks and equal No. 4 for contested possessions.
“I’m certainly really enjoying my football,” Grigg said on 3AW.
“I’ve been our oldest player so far this year. Being around a group of young guys is keeping me fresh.
“I don’t feel like I’m going to turn 29 (on Wednesday) . . . I feel like I’m 21-22 again.
“So it’s been really good.”
