Star Richmond key forward Jack Riewoldt was always going to be rewarded with the maximum 10 votes in the AFL Coaches’ Association’s Player of the Year Round 21 voting for his outstanding 10-goal performance against Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium last Saturday.
Riewoldt scored his 10 goals (10.6) from an AFL career-high 26 disposals, took 14 marks, with a dozen of them coming inside 50, and had 20 score involvements all-up in the Tigers’ 74-point win.
Valuable, veteran midfielder Shaun Grigg polled eight votes after finishing the match with 26 disposals, including 13 contested possessions, a team-high six clearances, five tackles and 14 score involvements.
Josh Caddy and Dustin Martin received four votes apiece for their impressive displays. Caddy had 22 disposals, took six marks and kicked four goals, while Martin had a team-high 28 disposals, six inside-50s, four clearances and six score involvements.
Shane Edwards picked up three votes for his quality 21-disposal display, with four clearances and five score involvements.
Bachar Houli rounded out a clean sweep for Richmond in the Round 21 coaches’ votes. He was given one vote following a trademark exhibition of rebound out of the backline – 26 disposals, seven marks, six intercepts and 430 metres gained.
