Richmond assistant coach Blake Caracella provides ‘Roar Vision’ with an insight into the impressive rise of Tigers premiership midfielder Kane Lambert.
His resilience pays dividends
“It’s an amazing story. Four or five drafts he didn’t get picked in. He played great footy as a junior and then through the VFL, winning best and fairests, and eventually got his chance . . . He had a really great year last year. It was great to see him finish third in the Best and Fairest in a premiership season.”
His key on-field attributes
“I think the best part about Kane is he can run all day and he’s quick, too. He’s one of the fittest players at our club. He’s got high-speed running and he runs to the right places . . . He knows where to run to, so he can rack the ball up, which he did in his juniors, through the VFL, and now he’s doing it in the AFL.”
His area of improvement
“I think he kicked 13 goals last year, so we want him to kick some more goals . . . Last year a lot of his possessions were based around score assists and getting involved in scoring chains. So if we can get him to kick more goals as well, it’s going to help us. (he’s kicked five goals in five games so far this season).”
His exemplary work-rate and team ethos
“In the finals series last year the general public realised how hard he works. But it’s not just how hard he works, he’s team-first. He does everything for the team . . . he listens to instructions and he puts the team first.”
His superb display v Melbourne on Anzac Eve
“Twenty-nine disposals, two goals, eight tackles, (15) contested possessions as well. He had a fantastic game.”
