Inspirational Richmond premiership captain Trent Cotchin has expressed pride, passion and delight with his contract extension at Tigerland, which was announced yesterday.
Cotchin’s firm commitment to the Club, until at least the end of the 2022 season, almost certainly ensures he’ll be a Tiger for life.
“Obviously on the back of last year, and just the environment that’s been created and we continue to grow here, it’s a special place to be . . . I’m very excited about the next four years and, hopefully, beyond that,” Cotchin told Richmond great Matthew Richardson in a ‘Roar Vision’ exclusive.
“The Richmond Football Club is a massive part of my life and I’m very thankful for every lesson that I’ve learnt here.
“There’s been some challenging times, but there’s also been some amazing times.
“The thing that makes your career so special is seeing the change and growth in a football club . . .
“I’m really proud that I’ve been a part of Richmond’s journey and, hopefully, the next four years holds some pretty cool stuff for us as well.”
Cotchin believes his contract extension, along with those recently of the Tigers’ co-vice-captains, Alex Rance and Jack Riewoldt, is a strong show of faith in the Club.
“I think it just shows that we’re really confident in the direction of the football club,” he said.
“We managed to get success last season, but we feel that there’s so much more growth within our current playing list, but also in the future of the footy club. And that’s really exciting for us.
“Hopefully, given we’re leaders of the team, we can be a small part in building towards that and setting the Club on a pretty successful path.
“And seeing guys around me signing on, that will ensure they’re Tigers for life as well, is humbling and really special.”
