Star Richmond key forward Tom Lynch has become only the second AFL free agent to win a premiership at his new club.
There have been 37 restricted or unrestricted free agents since the introduction of the AFL’s free agency system in 2012, with Lynch now joining James Frawley (Melbourne to Hawthorn) as a premiership player.
Lynch made the switch from Gold Coast to Tigerland this time last year as a restricted free agent.
He went on to play a pivotal role in Richmond’s premiership triumph, significantly boosting the Tigers’ potency up forward and finishing with 63 goals for the season.
That goal tally was the most ever by a player recruited from a rival league club in his inaugural season at Tigerland.
Lynch also became the first Tiger other than Jack Riewoldt to win the Michael Roach Medal as the Club’s leading goalkicker for the season since Mitch Morton, with 41 goals, in 2009.
