The series continues today with this photo of Richmond ‘Immortal’ and five-time premiership champion, Francis Bourke.
A bloodied Bourke, one of the bravest, toughest, and greatest Tigers of them all, receives some on-field medical treatment after colliding with teammate Stephen Mount in a vital Round 21, 1980 clash with North Melbourne at Arden Street.
In the days before the AFL's blood and concussion rules, Richmond coach at the time Tony Jewell moved Bourke from full-back to the opposite end of the ground, where he duly dived to take a chest mark and then steered through a crucial goal.
