Talented, tough, teenage midfielder Jack Ross made a superb senior debut for Richmond in last night’s clash with Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval.

The Tigers’ second selection (No. 43 overall) in the 2018 AFL national draft played a significant role in the stirring seven-point victory over Port.

He finished the match with 25 disposals, including 10 contested possessions, four clearances, three inside-50s, four marks, five tackles, 351 metres gained, and looked more like a seasoned 25-year-old out there.

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick loved what he saw from the big-bodied 18-year-old on debut.

“Jack Ross looked seamless in his transition to AFL footy. He was really impressive,” Hardwick said.

“You’re never quite sure when you bring a player in, but in fairness, he’d been playing very well at VFL level, looked really comfortable there . . .

“Just his poise with the ball and ability to get the ball and distribute the ball.

“And we noticed it in pre-season. All of a sudden there was this guy that was just moving really well and could understand the game.

“He’s been wanting to play AFL footy for a long period of time, and they’re the guys you love to coach . . .

“It was a great debut.”
