Dustin Martin might just make life a little uncomfortable for the AFL on Brownlow Medal night this year.
The superstar Richmond midfielder, who won the Brownlow two years ago, is ineligible in 2019 because of a one-match suspension he received from the MRO earlier this season.
But, given Martin’s a proven vote-getter, and his recent form is hot, he’s bound to feature prominently in this year’s count.

In the Tigers’ six-game, winning streak since the mid-season bye, Martin has polled an impressive total of 27 votes in the prestigious AFL Coaches’ Association’s Player of the Year award (seven v St Kilda, Round 15, four v Port Adelaide, Round 18, seven v Collingwood, Round 19 and nine v Melbourne, Round 20).
It’s also worthwhile looking back at Martin’s standout performances during the first half of season 2019, which could well net him quite a few Brownlow votes.
· Round 1 v Carlton – 30 disposals, seven inside-50s, five clearances.
· Round 5 v Sydney – 25 disposals, eight inside-50s, five clearances, three goals.
· Round 9 v Hawthorn – 37 disposals, four inside-50s, 10 clearances, two goals.
· Round 10 v Essendon – 35 disposals, eight inside-50s, eight clearances.
· Round 14 v Adelaide – 32 disposals, five inside-50s, five clearances.
Overall this season, Martin is averaging 27.1 disposals, 5.6 inside-50s, 4.4 clearances, 4.3 marks and he’s kicked 17 goals in his 18 games.
