Liam Baker took a significant step in his transition from small forward to small defender with a productive performance back at AFL level for Richmond against Port Adelaide at the MCG yesterday.
The 21-year-old, making his first senior appearance with the Tigers since Round 13, after showing good recent form across the backline in the VFL, had 20 disposals and an equal game-high nine intercepts.
It was a display that caught the eye of Baker’s teammate, star midfielder Dion Prestia.
“I thought he played really well today,” Prestia told K rock Football in an interview following Richmond’s 38-point win.

“He has some pretty good skills.
“And, you see him go back with the flight. He does that every single week down at the VFL.
“It’s the thing that you picture with Liam, when you think of him.
And, playing back is now another string to his bow that he’s added.”
