Top-notch Richmond defender Dylan Grimes was rewarded for his mighty defensive display against Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval last Saturday with maximum votes in the AFL Coaches’ Association’s Player of the Year Award Round 4 voting.
Grimes received 10 out of 10 from rival coaches Damien Hardwick (Richmond) and Ken Hinkley (Port Adelaide) following his inspirational efforts in the Tigers’ backline, particularly throughout the tense, tight, tough last quarter.

He took six vital marks in the final term and had a game-high 13 intercepts overall, plus an equal team-high six rebound-50s, to deny Port the victory virtually everyone outside the four walls at Tigerland expected it would secure.
Richmond’s star key-forward recruit Tom Lynch received seven votes for his excellent six-goal performance, while the Tigers’ acting captain Shane Edwards was given four votes after a typically classy, creative showing in a new sweeping role across half-back.
Rounding out the Round 4 Richmond vote-getters in the prestigious coaches’ award were hard-running Brandon Ellis (three) and robust ruckman Toby Nankervis (two).
