Off the back of a standout performance, midfielder Tim Taranto will look to carry momentum into tonight's Anzac Day Eve match when the Tigers face the Dees at the MCG.
In Richmond's 11-point win against a previously undefeated Suns line-up last week, Taranto led the game in disposals, recording 35 for the match, along with six clearances, six tackles and one goal.
The key midfielder said the side didn’t have long to bask in the win, with a short five-day turnaround demanding a swift switch in focus.
“I mean, winning was unbelievable, but we haven’t had much time to feel it,” Taranto said.
“We’ve just had to move on pretty quickly to the Dees, a five-day break is always interesting, we haven’t trained a lot, which is kind of a good thing.
“We get to go straight back into it Thursday night, which is awesome.”
Richmond announced that young defender Campbell Gray will make his AFL debut in the Anzac Day Eve clash, making him the club's sixth debutant in just seven games.
Taranto said he has nothing but admiration for Gray, as he has worked hard to earn his opportunity.
“He has come a long way from a year or two ago,” Taranto said.
“He’s put a lot of time into his body, and he hasn’t had the easiest run, so it’s a credit to him to put in the time, and he’s now got the reward.
“He is such a good kid, and he means so well, does everything for the team, so I think he is going to slot in nicely for us.
“It’s really exciting for us to see these guys grow and take their opportunities.”
This year Taranto has stepped into a leadership position alongside the likes of Nathan Broad, Jayden Short, Tom Lynch and skipper Toby Nankervis.
Leading from the front with a string of standout performances, Taranto explained it is a real privilege to lead such a young group.
“I’m always growing that part of my game, and I’m really enjoying it,” Taranto said.
“When I get to follow Nank and Broady, Tig (Nick Vlastuin), Hop, and run alongside them and lead, it feels like a real privilege.
“I’m not taking that for granted at all, and I’m loving it.”
Having missed last year’s annual Anzac Day Eve match due to a broken wrist, Taranto is more fired up than ever to run out on such a special occasion.
“I’m keen to get out there again in such a special game and I can’t wait,” Taranto said.
“It’s going to be unbelievable, and hopefully we will put up a good performance, which I know we will crack in.
“We have to be really grateful for our opportunity, and we have to be really respectful, and the best way to do that is just by putting our best foot forward for four quarters.”
Both sides are coming off strong wins in Round 6 and will look to continue that form heading into tonight’s blockbuster match, however, Taranto said it’s up to them to be the ones to “crack in” and get the job done.
“I think they are a better side than what their record shows,” Taranto said.
“It’s going to be a tough game, you know they are going to come (out) with a bit of confidence after last week, so it’s up to us to hold that and crack in.
“We are feeling pretty good too, so I think it is going to be a good game.”
