Steve Morris has taken another significant step in his father’s footsteps at Richmond.
Following an 87-game career with the Tigers from 2012-17 as a tough, tenacious, fearless, small defender, Morris took over the coaching reins of the Club’s VFL side.
He coached the VFL Tigers for three years and had an impressive record of 31 wins, 23 losses with consecutive wildcard finals appearances in 2023-24.
At the end of the 2024 season, Morris was appointed to Richmond’s AFL coaching panel.
His father, Kevin, a top-notch, tough utility, played 110 games for Richmond from 1971-76, was a member of two Tiger premierships (1973, 1974), and won the Jack Dyer Medal (1975).
He left Tigerland at the end of the 1976 season to join Collingwood, where he played 71 games from 1977-81.
Then, after coaching stints with Werribee (VFA), West Adelaide (SANFL) and Essendon (AFL), Morris returned to Richmond during the mid-1990s.
He was the Tigers’ reserve-grade coach in 1995 and an assistant coach to John Northey in 1996.
