Nathan Broad produced arguably the best performance of his fine 144-game AFL career for Richmond in yesterday’s match against Collingwood at the MCG.
The triple premiership Tiger defender was outstanding, finishing with a team-high and AFL career-high 26 disposals, eight contested possessions, a game and career-high 15 marks, including an equal career-high four contested grabs, a team-high 11 intercepts, four rebound-50s, four score involvements and 244 metres gained.
If not for Broad’s strong and bold efforts in Richmond’s backline right throughout the contest, the team’s losing margin of 26 points would have been significantly greater.
It was a typically selfless, team-oriented Broad, who played down his top-class, individual showing in a post-match interview with Richmond Media.
“I’ve got good defenders around me that make my job a lot easier,” he said.
