Jagga Smith made quite the impression in his VFL debut with Richmond last Saturday, both on and off the field.

The highly-talented, teenage midfielder, touted as a potential top-five pick in this year’s AFL national draft, produced a top-class performance against Williamstown at DSV Stadium.

Unperturbed by the rain sheeting in horizontally at stages, on a bitterly cold, windy evening, Smith racked up a game-high 31 disposals, took five marks, had eight clearances and applied three tackles in the Tigers’ 22-point loss.

The Club’s VFL coach Steve Morris was full of praise for Smith, the player, and the person, during a post-match interview with Richmond Media.

“I just love the fact he’s, first and foremost, a wonderful human being,” Morris said.”

“He’s respectful, got lovely manners.

“He’s a real likeable kid and he was really grateful for the opportunity to be here. And the boys really enjoyed having him a part of our group.

“I think we’ve got him for another couple of games and, hopefully, he continues that great form that he started in.”
