Richmond will dedicate its Round 18 home fixture against GWS Giants to the Alannah & Madeline Foundation, helping to support children to recover and heal from trauma.

The Club and Alannah & Madeline Foundation have been in partnership since 2012, with the Tiger Army helping to raise over $1.9 million for the children’s charity during that period.

This year’s theme, “Be Their Buddy”, will see the Club and its players promote the support of the Buddy Bag program, helping children in crisis through their first few days in emergency care and on their journey to healing.

Buddy Bags are backpacks thoughtfully packed for children escaping violence across Australia. These children often arrive at emergency foster care scared and alone, separated from parents and siblings, with nothing more than the clothes on their backs.

Each Buddy Bag includes a teddy bear, along with essentials such as a toothbrush and toothpaste, PJs, underwear, and socks.

Fans can support the Foundation by purchasing limited-edition merchandise on game day, signing up for a special Alannah & Madeline Foundation membership or donating at www.alannahandmadeline.org.au/Richmond

  • $55 can provide ONE Buddy Bag to a child who has been removed from a violent home and left everything behind.

  • $82 can provide four children with brand new pyjamas to help them take the first steps to heal and recover.

  • $100 can provide brand new pyjamas, a book and a special toy to four children to help them take the first steps to heal and recover.

Richmond CEO Brendon Gale said that the Club’s longstanding partnership with the Alannah & Madeline Foundation continually showed the power of sport.

“The way the Tiger Army has embraced this terrific charity over many years is a great credit to them and an example of how we, as a football club, can make a positive difference in the community,” he said.

“The work of the Alannah & Madeline Foundation to keep children safe is vital. We look forward to making another meaningful contribution through the game and surrounding activity this year.”

Sarah Davies AM, CEO of the Alannah & Madeline Foundation expressed her gratitude to the  Club.

“The amazing partnership and the incredible support of the Richmond Football Club has been transformative, providing invaluable support to vulnerable children and helping them thrive,” Sarah said.

“Each year we are blown away by the generosity and roaring support of the mighty Tiger Army. We love seeing the MCG in a wash of yellow, black and purple.”
