Former Richmond President Peggy O’Neal AO will be inducted into the Club’s Hall of Fame at Sunday week's home clash against Carlton at the MCG.

O’Neal will be formally recognised at the President’s Function, in honour of her remarkable contribution to the Club.

American-born-and-raised, O’Neal was drawn most closely to Richmond by the 1990 Save our Skins campaign and how it highlighted the Club’s proud history and its importance to the community.

O’Neal initially joined the Richmond Board in 2005 as a 20-year Tigers supporter and one of Australia’s best super annuation lawyers.

The trailblazer’s outstanding work on the Board, where she chaired the Club’s risk and compliance committee and the Tigers in Community Foundation, saw her elected President in 2013.

At the time, O'Neal became the AFL’s first female Club President, paving the way for current Melbourne President Kate Roffey, as well as Sonja Hood (North Melbourne President) and Kylie Watson-Wheeler (Western Bulldogs President).

Under O’Neal’s instrumental leadership, Richmond went on to win a drought-breaking premiership in 2017 before backing it up with further triumph in 2019 and 2020.

Richmond were also minor premiers in 2018, winning 20 of their 25 matches played that season.

In 2020, Richmond also entered the AFL Women’s competition, a license that O’Neal had pushed hard for and been a key driver of.

O’Neal completed her maximum term as Richmond President in 2022 following another finals campaign, with the Club remaining in a healthy position off-field despite the challenges of the global pandemic.

The Club also made its maiden AFLW finals appearance that season, and in O’Neal’s final home AFL match as President hosted a double header with the Women’s and Men’s team playing at the MCG.

An icon of Richmond, O’Neal’s leadership will forever be remembered for a golden era that ended 37 years without a premiership and returned the Club to the top of the AFL.
