In the moments after Dustin Martin’s 300-game milestone against Hawthorn at the MCG yesterday, his long-time, triple Tiger premiership teammate Jack Riewoldt interviewed him out on the field for Fox Footy. Here is what Dusty had to say about the remarkable crowd of 92,311 that flocked to the ‘G’ to pay homage to him.
“Disappointing result for the Club, but I love the Tiger Army so much . . . I love this club more than anything,” he said.
“All the love I received this week has just meant the absolute world to me. So, thank you everyone who sent me a message – social media, on the radio. I felt so loved this week, so I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Appreciate it.
“It’s been a surreal week, it really has, but I just appreciate everyone coming out tonight . . . Loved the crowd so much. I’ve been overwhelmed this week with all the support. I really can’t believe it. You really made me feel special and loved and I can’t thank everyone enough.
“I’ve been so blessed throughout my whole career. It’s been an unbelievable journey . . . I’m just so grateful for all the support. It’s bloody awesome.”
And this is what Dusty had to say about the trademark, team-lifting, opening goal of the match that he kicked . . .
“It was the best. Old school. I loved it.”
