Scans have confirmed that Richmond VFL captain Lachlan Street suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in Sunday's match against Footscray at the Swinburne Centre.

The injury occurred during the second quarter of the Round 7 clash and will end the 26-year-old utility's season.

Richmond VFL coach Steve Morris said it was terrible luck for the much-loved Tiger, who is in his sixth season at the Club.

"It's a shattering blow for Lachie, who's a fantastic person and leader of our program," Morris said.

"We know that being the person he is, he'll continue to have an impact on the Club and will come back fitter and stronger.

"We will wrap our arms around him and support him in every step of his rehabilitation."
