Seth Campbell has been a shining light for Richmond in the early stages of season 2024.
The talented, 19-year-old forward from Tasmania, taken by the Tigers with pick 12 overall in the 2022 AFL rookie draft, made an impressive senior debut in the opening round against Gold Coast at People First Stadium, kicking two goals.
He’s followed that up with two more strong performances at the game’s highest level, against Carlton in Round 1 and then in yesterday’s Round 2 clash with Port Adelaide at the MCG, where he had 14 disposals, five contested possessions, three marks, four inside-50s, six score involvements and 386 metres gained.
After three games of AFL football, he is averaging 12.0 disposals, 5.3 contested possessions, 2.7 marks, 1.0 goal, 4.3 score involvements, 2.7 inside-50s, 2.3 tackles and 269.7 metres gained per match.
Among potential AFL rising star nominees, he is ranked No. 3 for goals per game, No. 5 for metres gained per game, No. 6 for score involvements per game, No. 6 for tackles inside 50 per game, No. 7 for marks inside 50 per game, No. 8 for inside-50s per game, No. 8 for clearances per game and No. 10 for contested possessions per game.
Campbell’s exciting football mix of smart decision-making, pace, first-rate running ability, quality disposal and all-round class, has captivated the Tiger Army and his teammates alike, including vice-captain Liam Baker.
“Seth’s come in this year and played three really solid games. He’s not going to have a great game every game, but his first three have been amazing, and that’s all we can ask for,” Baker said in a post-match interview with Richmond Media last night.
