There were impressive signs of young Tiger Jack Graham’s transition to become a more complete midfielder in last night’s 2019 season-opener against Carlton at the MCG.

The 21-year-old, playing just his 24th game of AFL football, finished with 23 disposals, which was the second most of his career at Richmond to date.

Included among those disposals were 15 uncontested possessions, and he had a total of 475 metres gained (the fifth most by a Richmond player on the night) – both those statistics underlining the emphasis he’s placed on improving his outside game.

Graham also had five inside-50s, four clearances, took seven marks and applied six tackles, in trademark style, to be one of the Tigers’ best performers in their 33-point win.

“They say that I’m a good defensive player, but it’s more working on my offense, which I spent a little bit of time on in the pre-season,” Graham told ‘KRock’ in a post-match interview.

“Instead of just shutting down the blokes, I want to get on my offense and get my game up and going.

“So that’s something that I’ve been working on.”
