Richmond has completed its list for the 2024 AFLW season with the addition of Tasmanian Mackenzie Ford via selection No. 43 overall at tonight's AFLW Draft.

The Tigers pounced on Ford following an excellent season at Coates League, State and Local levels in 2023.

Ford is a dangerous player with explosive pace who can quickly move from congestion and is powerful and strong in a contest.

The 163cm Tasmanian played through the midfield for the Devils in the Coates Talent League, averaging 13.6 disposals, 6.5 tackles, and 3.1 tackles per match.

Ford also impressed when representing the Allies at the National Championships where she was excellent in both her games.

The youngster had 17 disposals, two score assists and six tackles against Victoria Metro, and a monster 15-tackle match against Western Australia, suggesting to recruiters she had the potential to be an elite pressure forward in the AFLW.

Richmond AFLW National Recruiting Manager Trent Mosbey said Ford was easily recognisable on the field with her tenacious hunt for the ball and opposition. She also plays in a blue helmet.

“Mackenzie applies elite pressure around the ball, has excellent competitiveness and ferociousness, and regularly lays tackles,” he added.

“We see Mackenzie as a quick, dynamic, dangerous forward that can have spells through the midfield. 

“She is a lively player, and she plays a fast and quick tempo game style which will suit how we play. She has significant upside in her game, and we are excited to see what she can do wearing the yellow and black.”

Ford hails from Dover, a small town outside of Hobart; she was also a state-level netballer in juniors.

Playing for her local club, Kingsborough Tigers, Ford was named their best player in every game she played this year.
