Richmond’s improved playing depth was highlighted in the final hit-out of VFL affiliate Coburg before the start of its 2013 home-and-away season.
A host of Richmond-listed players starred in Coburg’s 46-point win against the Northern Blues (14.13 to 7.9).
Young gun defender, Dylan Grimes, returning from his long-term hamstring trouble, was impressive at half-back, playing three quarters of the match (11 possessions, with three rebound-50s and three marks).

Orren Stephenson was influential in the ruck, dominating the hit-outs (32) and picking up important possessions around the ground.
Matt White (24 possessions, with six clearances), Matt Arnot (30 possessions, with nine inside-50s and six clearances) and newcomer Nick Vlastuin (22 possessions, with five inside-50s) were prominent in their on-ball roles, providing plenty of drive for the Coburg team, both on the inside and outside.
Matt Dea excelled in defence (31 possessions, with five rebound-50s), Chris Knights was excellent on a wing (28 possessions, with four inside-50s and three rebound-50s), while three other Tiger cubs, Brett O’Hanlon (26 possessions, with five inside-50s), Brad Helbig (26 possessions, with three rebound-50s) and Steve Verrier (20 possessions, with five inside-50s) also shone.
Up forward, Aaron Edwards had a significant impact on the scoreboard, taking eight marks and kicking five goals from his 14 touches.
Coburg meets Sandringham in its season-opener at home next Sunday (April 7) at 2pm.
