He was passed fit to play against the Cats last week, but the Tigers have taken a cautious approach with their captain for Saturday’s trip to play Port Adelaide.
“It was probably a bit sore last week. The medical team and Trent debated it heavily (before the Geelong match),” said Richmond General Manager of Football, Dan Richardson.
“He didn’t cause himself any more damage. Structurally, it’s sound.
“We just decided it was to rest him this week, and make sure we get it right.”
Richmond vice-captain Brett Deledio will take over as captain for the match against the Power.
Cotchin has not missed a game for the Tigers since Round 21, 2010.
