Richmond champion Dustin Martin stormed home in the AFL Coaches Association’s Champion Player of the Year award.

Martin polled 40 votes in his last eight games of the season for an overall total of 47.

His whirlwind finish in the prestigious award started with the Round 14 match against St Kilda at the MCG, where he received six votes.

Following that, it was eight votes v Sydney, Round 17, MCG, five votes v West Coast, Round 18, Optus Stadium, four votes v Melbourne, Round 20, MCG, 10 votes v North Melbourne, Round 23, MCG and seven votes v Port Adelaide, Round 24, Adelaide Oval.

Martin missed two games through illness and injury throughout that time – the Round 16 clash with Brisbane at the Gabba and the Round 21 match against Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium. Richmond had the bye in Round 15.

Tiger excitement machine Shai Bolton also had a big second half of the season in the coaches’ award.

Bolton picked up 34 votes from Round 13 onwards and finished with an overall total of 56.

Richmond’s leading vote-winner in the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year award for 2023 was top-notch midfielder Tim Taranto with 63 votes.
