Shai Bolton is making a late charge for the 2023 Michael Roach Medal, Richmond’s leading goalkicker award.
The brilliant dual premiership Tiger booted an equal AFL career-high four goals in yesterday’s Round 23 clash with North Melbourne at the MCG to take his season’s tally to 29, which is three goals behind champion key forward Jack Riewoldt, who has retired and won’t play in the final home-and-away round match against Port Adelaide at the Adelaide Oval next Sunday.
Bolton played a pivotal role in Richmond’s 29-point victory over the Kangaroos, finishing the match with 25 disposals, eight contested possessions, seven marks, eight inside-50s, four goals, an equal game-high 12 score involvements and a team-high 587 metres gained.
After scoring 43 goals in the 2022 season and earning an inaugural All-Australian blazer, Bolton has followed up with some top-class football again this year.
He is averaging 22.1 disposals and 1.3 goals per match, which are elite statistical numbers.
Across the competition, he is ranked fifth for inside-50s, eighth for score involvements and 10th for goal assists.
