Richmond fans are famous for their loyalty and there may be no more loyal Tiger than Andrew Sloman. Despite being based in New Zealand, “Slowy” rarely misses a game, travelling all across the country to follow the yellow and black. He has also often joined the team on their pre-season training camps, including making the trip to Arizona some years back. “Slowy” is with the team on their pre-season camp on the Gold Coast this week and we thought it would be great to get a fans perspective on what he sees on the camp and what excites him most about season 2019.
Day 4
Today was officially a day of rest. Several players and staff chose to partake in various activities across the Gold Coast and Brisbane areas. Some went fishing with a former Tiger and now Gold Coast resident and player, Anthony Miles. I really shouldn’t say former Tiger and the coach would remind me that if you played for Richmond, you are and always will be a Richmond Person.

I was honoured to join a group of players for a round of golf at Brookwater Course in Brisbane. Brookwater is an extremely tough course and the weather was hot with little breeze. The conditions suited extremely fit and finely tuned athletes with great golfing skills, so Jack Riewoldt, Jack Graham, Nathan Broad, Liam Baker and a few of us decided to join the competition for the day, which was Stableford. From the 126 participants, the competition winner was Mr Jack Graham of Melbourne, Victoria. Here is a picture of the happy winner, and I’m sure his handicap will come down significantly!
We followed golf with dinner with the Coaches. We were tasked with selecting our starting 22 for Round 1, assuming all players were available, and “selling” our selected teams to the Coaches and Neil Balme in a Match Committee style environment. A daunting and difficult task believe me, but a really fun one as well. Feel free to try it at home. Our list is very strong.
Anyways, I’m off to do a yoga and meditation session with Emma Murray and the group. Until tomorrow!
