Josh Caddy is thriving in his new football home at Tigerland.

The strongly-built, talented midfielder, who transferred to Richmond from Geelong during last year’s AFL trade period, has displayed an exemplary work ethic over the course of the pre-season, and last Friday night he had a significant impact in his playing debut with the Tigers, when they took on Adelaide in their opening 2017 JLT Community Series match at Etihad Stadium.

Caddy was one of the best performers in Richmond’s 19-point win, finishing with 21 disposals, including 10 contested possessions, seven score involvements, three clearances, six marks and a goal.

His delight with football life as a Tiger was apparent, when interviewed post-match on ‘Fox Footy’.

“It’s been great.  I’ve loved every minute of it (at Richmond).  And it was good to finally get out here tonight and have a run around with them for the first time,” Caddy told ‘Fox Footy’ post-match.

Caddy’s capacity to go forward and impact, also was evident at times in last Friday night’s clash.

“We’ve got a number of guys that can do down there.  We’re going to have to do that,” he said.

“The best teams in the ‘comp’ have a high number of midfielders, but you’ve got to be able to play somewhere else.  And, for me, that’s up forward.

“So that’s definitely what’ll happen during the year.  And, as well, Dustin (Martin) and Trent (Cotchin) will probably go down there.”

Caddy expressed his excitement with being part of Richmond’s growing group of talented midfielders.

“Obviously, Dustin and Trent are superstars, and they’ve proved that over the last few years.  And Dion (Prestia) is a great player,” Caddy said.

“He probably hasn’t got as much exposure, playing on the Gold Coast, but he’s a gun. 

“So, I’m really looking forward to fitting into this midfield and, hopefully, having a good year.”
