Development coach, David Newett, provides a summary of how the Richmond-listed players performed at AFL level with Coburg in last Sunday’s clash with Williamstown . . .
David Gourdis
Provided a contest up forward, but was inconsistent in terms of his involvement in the game.
Andrew Browne
Continues to be a strong performer at Coburg. Had 28 hit-outs and 20 possessions in another very good performance. His work-rate has been excellent over the first few weeks of the season.
Jayden Post
Started the game well and provided a contest, but his overall impact was quelled by the opposition’s disciplined defenders.
Robbie Hicks
Like all Coburg forwards on the day, was a victim of the team’s poor ball movement. Was busy in patches, but not as damaging as in previous weeks.
Pat Contin
Accumulated possessions in the defensive half and through the midfield. Distributed the ball well in transition.
Mitch Morton
Controlled his wing throughout and used the majority of his 26 possessions to the team’s advantage. Kicked a goal early and was then consistent with his involvement in the game.
Mitch Farmer
Played in his more familiar defensive role. His mopping up at ground level and tackling were features of his game.
Tom Derickx
Worked hard throughout the game and provided a strong contest when moved forward. Crashed the packs on several occasions to create scoring opportunities for teammates.
David Astbury
Was solid in defence on a dangerous, experienced opponent in Mitch Hahn. Rebounded well, picking up 19 possessions and taking 10 marks.
Brad Helbig
Worked his way into the game and was good in contested situations. Needs to find more outside footy.
Jeromey Webberley
Was the most damaging Coburg player on the day, rebounding from across half-back and using the ball efficiently. Didn’t play the previous week due to the fact he was emergency for the Richmond team, and did his chance of promotion no harm with his display last Sunday.
Tom Hislop
Made an impressive return to senior VFL football.. Played in the midfield and provided a strong contest at the stoppages. Applied strong tackles, had 25 possessions, and used the ball well.
Ben Griffiths (Coburg reserves)
Got through the allotted game time in his long-waited return to the playing field following his shoulder reconstruction last year. His tackling pressure was good and he had a few scoring involvements.
Nick Westhoff (Coburg reserves)
Struggled to work his way into the game. Provided brief glimpses of what he is capable of, but needs to get to more contests.
