Jack Riewoldt is now in third place on Richmond’s all-time goalkicking list.

The triple Tiger premiership star key forward moved past club ‘Immortal’ Kevin Bartlett with his sole goal in last Thursday night’s victory over Sydney at the MCG.

Channelling other AFL goalkicking greats in Essendon’s John Coleman and Hawthorn’s Peter Hudson, by wearing a long-sleeved guernsey for the first time, Riewoldt took a well-judged mark alongside the goal-square at the Ponsford Stand end early in the last quarter and kicked truly to chalk up the 779th goal of his magnificent playing career with Richmond.

He told Channel Seven in a post-match interview just after the final siren that he was relieved to finally move into the top three bracket of Tigerland’s greatest goalkickers.

“Just a little bit of a monkey off the back . . . been a couple of weeks without a goal,” Riewoldt said.

“Still just chugging along okay. Would like to play a little bit better . . .

“I’m really enjoying footy in what is the twilight of my career.”

Riewoldt, an 11-time winner of the Michael Roach Medal as Richmond’s leading goalkicker in a season, has scored 24 goals from his 15 games so far this year.

He is 21 goals behind Tiger great Matthew Richardson (800 goals), with the legendary Jack Titus in first place overall on 970 goals.
