Alex Rance is a man of many faces at Tigerland . . .
On match day, he is a super-competitive ‘beast’, who thrives on the challenge of taking on, and beating, the star key forwards of the competition.
It’s something he’s done particularly well over the past few seasons, too, through a combination of pace, anticipation, courage, and his fierce will-to-win.
He takes great pride in wearing the famous Yellow and Black guernsey, and leaves nothing on the field of battle in his efforts to help lift the Tigers.
Away from the field, Rance takes on a somewhat different persona, as his backline teammate Troy Chaplin explained on SEN . . .
“Alex Rance is a deadset clown,” Chaplin said.
“It doesn’t matter how you’re feeling on Monday. He comes in and tries to cheer the boys up and has a bit of a laugh and joke.
“He’s one of those guys that asks questions in the meetings, or says something, and it sometimes can be completely the opposite of what the coach is talking about. You just sit back and laugh.
“‘Rancey’ is a beauty. He’s a fantastic player and one of the elite defenders in the competition.
“He’s really grown this year, but the beauty is that he does make it fun in the locker-room and brings that camaraderie to the group, especially in the tough times.
“He’s one of the most passionate guys, and hates losing – don’t get me wrong – but he’s got the balance now of being able to have a joke, and also be serious as well.
“He’s probably that guy who everyone sort of turns to, to give the boys a bit of a lift when they’re down.”
