Jack Riewoldt has joined the exclusive 400-goal club at the MCG.
The triple Richmond premiership star key forward’s excellent four-goal exhibition against Melbourne in last night’s blockbuster ANZAC Day Eve clash took his MCG goal tally to 402 in 185 games there.
He joins Tiger great Matthew Richardson, who holds the record for most goals at the ‘G’ with 464 (in 152 games) and Essendon’s Matthew Lloyd, 461 (133 games).
Richmond coach Damien Hardwick paid tribute to Riewoldt in his press conference following the Tigers’ gallant 18-point loss to the Demons.
“He’s great. He’s really working hard. He’s got a young forward line up there and inexperienced at various stages, but he’s getting to work and creating contests and kicking some goals as well, which is nice,” Hardwick said.
“I think he’s getting everything out of himself at the moment, which is really important because we need him.
“His leadership down there has been also very good.”
Riewoldt has kicked 13 goals in five games this season and now has an AFL-career total of 768 goals in 331 games.
