Richmond has used its selection (pick No. 24) in the AFLW Season Eight Supplementary Draft to recruit Castlemaine/Casey Demons VFLW key forward Shelby Knoll.
The 22-year-old arrives at Tigerland following an impressive season last year with Castlemaine in the Central Victoria Football League.
A prominent goalkicker, Knoll booted 52 goals in 16 games in Castlemaine’s 2022 premiership side, including bags of nine and six goals in two games last April.
Her stunning form continued into the Interleague game against the Northern Country Women’s League, where she kicked seven goals for the Central Victoria's side and was judged best player on the field.
She slotted two critical goals in Castlemaine’s Grand Final victory over Golden Square, before being named in the the Central Victoria Football League Team of the Year.
Knoll had signed on with the Casey Demons in the VFLW for the 2023 season and made impressive progress within their system over the pre-season.
Richmond Women's Recruiting Manager Trent Mosbey said Knoll had significant upside and would be a welcome addition to the Tigers' forward line.
"Shelby is a consistent goalkicker, with her kicking skills a real feature of her game. She plays an exciting brand and challenges the opposition both in the air and at ground level," Mosbey said.
"Her strengths are her contested marking, her aerial ability in flight, athleticism for her size, and her competitiveness as a target down the line or inside 50.
"We believe Shelby has exciting growth to come in her game which we are excited to help her develop within our system.
"We see her slotting into our forward line in the future and adding to our strike power."
Knoll, who has a twin brother, was inspired by her family, particularly her grandad, to take up football at 14 years old. She started her career with Kangaroo Flat in Bendigo and also played one season with the Bendigo Pioneers.
