VFL curtain-raiser bonanza for Tigers
Richmond’s new VFL team will play seven of its nine home games at the ME Bank Centre in 2014 as curtain-raisers to the AFL Tigers’ MCG fixtures.
The first of these is on Sunday, May 4, when Richmond and Geelong clash in a Round 5 VFL match at the ME Bank Centre at 11.30am, followed by an AFL meeting of the two clubs at the MCG, from 3.20pm.
This was revealed in the 2014 VFL fixture, released today.
The Richmond VFL side will play the Footscray Bulldogs in the opening round of the 2014 season, at Whitten Oval on Saturday, April 5, at 10.30am.

Richmond and the Western Bulldogs meet later that day (1.45pm), at Etihad Stadium, in a Round 3 AFL fixture.
The following week, the Tigers’ VFL team will do battle with Richmond’s former affiliate Coburg (Sunday, April 13, at Coburg City Oval, from 2pm).
Then, in Round 3 of the VFL season, big-time football returns to the Punt Road Oval at the ME Bank Centre, with Richmond hosting Williamstown.
It will be the first time in nearly 100 years that Richmond and Williamstown have played against each other. Both teams were in the old Victorian Football Association when they last met, way back in 1907, which was the year before the Tigers broke away to join the then Victorian Football League (the game’s main football competition).
Next year’s ‘Dreamtime at the ‘G’ will be enhanced, with Richmond and Essendon playing a VFL curtain-raiser at the ME Bank Centre at 2pm on Saturday, May 31.
Another key game will be the VFL team's Round 7 clash on Saturday, May 17 against the 2013 premiers, the Box Hill Hawks, played at the ME Bank Centre, before the senior team play Melbourne in a home game at the MCG.
Richmond members will be able to gain free admission into the Tigers’ VFL home games, upon presentation of their 2014 membership card.
