Richmond midfielder Nathan Foley says he is slowly regaining full match fitness after returning from a long-term Achilles tendon injury.

Foley made his comeback as the substitute in Round 7 against Port Adelaide, and has since played three straight games.

His best performance was his last, against West Coast at Patersons Stadium, where he gathered 22 disposals and laid four tackles.

“It’s a work in progress.  I probably struggled in my first few games back, but in the last couple I’ve started to find my feet a little bit,” Foley said on SEN radio.

“The Achilles itself feels really good.  It’s just a case of getting match fitness in and adjusting to AFL again now.”

This week, Foley continues his comeback against Adelaide, a team he is expecting to bounce back hard from its home defeat to Sydney last week.

“We’ve been in the same situations at times, when we’ve put in disappointing efforts and then had that steely resolve on the track during the week to come out and make amends,” he said.

“Certainly Adelaide will be that case this week, so it’ll be a good challenge for us.”
