Tigers search for winning formula
Chris Newman was a mixture of frustration, pride and positiveness speaking after the Tigers’ four-point loss to North Melbourne at the MCG yesterday.
“I think we’ve lost something like eight games under 20 points. We’ve been in games, but that’s just the next stage of our development,” Newman said.
“We’ve got to find a way to win. North Melbourne found a way to win today and that was the difference in the end . . .
“We didn’t get off to a great start, but we fought our way back into the game. We probably lacked a bit of polish off the back half and I think our efficiency was pretty low.”
Newman, however, also pointed to a number of Tiger positives on the day . . .
“There were a lot of efforts - Shane Tuck’s in that last quarter comes to mind (two clutch goals). There were a lot of other guys, too . . . Alex Rance going back with the flight,” he said.
“I think the desperation was there, but probably not for four quarters . . .
“We had a crack, we threw everything at them in the last three minutes, and they were good enough to hold us off . . . we just didn’t take our chances when we went forward.”
Newman is adamant the door hasn’t closed on Richmond’s season.
“We got back to playing some good footy today, and we’ve got a big challenge against Carlton next week, so we’re really looking forward to it,” he said.
“We just need to freshen up, dust ourselves off and come out firing.”
