Monique Conti's sensational season has been recognised by her playing peers, with the midfield star receiving the 2022 AFL Players’ Association Most Valuable Player Award.
The 22-year-old was presented with the honour at the Season 7 AFLW Players’ MVP Awards on Wednesday night, becoming the first ever Richmond AFLW player to receive the prestigious award.
Voting for the AFLW MVP Awards is a two-stage process, with players nominating their teammates in stage one before selecting from a competition-wide field in stage two.
Players cannot vote for a player from their own club during stage two of the voting process.
The award caps off a decorated season for the excitement machine, who was selected in her fourth All-Australian side and finished runner up in the league best and fairest at Tuesday night's W Awards event, while also being named captain of the 22Under22 team earlier this week.
The triple Tigers best and fairest winner took her game to another level in Season Seven, averaging 21.7 disposals, 6.2 tackles and 3.9 clearances across her 10 home and away outings.
Leading the the team on and off the field, Conti, a member of Richmond's leadership group, captained the side on multiple occasions in the absence of Katie Brennan and Sarah Hosking.
Tigers' skipper Brennan congratulated Conti on receiving the coveted award.
"What an exciting moment," Brennan said.
"She's only getting started, there's so much more to come.
"On behalf of all the players, well done.
"She's a hell of a player, but most of all, she's a hell of a person."
