Richmond superstar Monique Conti has been rewarded for her stellar season by finishing in second place in the Season 7 AFLW best and fairest at tonight's W Awards.

Conti, polling 19 votes, finished just two points behind winner Ally Anderson from Brisbane on 21 votes.

The speedy midfielder received maximum votes in four games after playing in all 10 of Richmond’s home and away games this season, averaging 21.7 disposals, 6.2 tackles and 3.9 clearances per match, while also booting eight goals.

Richmond coach Ryan Ferguson praised the midfielder's season.

“Mon is a quality person first and foremost and clearly an outstanding footballer,” he said.

“With the condition she came back in after the off-season, the standards that she set in pre-season, her competitiveness, determination, her care for teammates, it is no accident that she had such an outstanding season.

“She has been so influential to our improvement as a team.”

Ferguson also lauded Conti’s ability to lead the team on and off the field, with the midfielder added to the leadership for Season 7 and captaining the team on multiple occasions in the absence of Katie Brennan and Sarah Hosking.

The second place result follows Conti’s fourth All-Australian berth earlier tonight.

A former premiership player and best on ground in the Grand Final winner, Conti will also be a strong chance to claim a fifth club best and fairest next month and is one of the favourites for tomorrow night’s AFLW player-voted MVP.
