He was a long-time star on the field for Richmond and these days he’s a star in the AFL football media.

Matthew Richardson’s impressive transition into the footy media, following his magnificent playing career with the Tigers, was highlighted at the Australian Football Media Association’s annual awards function held last night.

Richo won the prestigious Lou Richards Medal, named in honour of the Collingwood great and football multi-media megastar.

The Lou Richards Medal is awarded to a former or current AFL player working in the media.

It recognises all the qualities displayed by Lou Richards throughout his career on and off the field, including his personality, humour and ability to talk about the game.

Richo’s first-rate work with Channel Seven and 3AW (not to mention with Richmond’s podcast juggernaut Talking Tigers) deservedly earned him the award.

Well done, Richo.
