Richmond Football Club is supporting the Australian Peacekeeping Memorial Project (APMP) during this weekend’s match against Hawthorn.

The club is helping to promote awareness and raise funds for the construction of a national memorial in Canberra.

To help raise funds, a special "Peacekeeper Bear" has been commissioned, which can be purchased at Sunday’s game at a stall outside gate 3, for $65.95.

The proceeds will go towards building the memorial and supporting Australians involved in peacekeeping operations around the world.

Fans are also encouraged to dig deep before the game when APMP representatives will rattle tins outside the ground.

Australian Peacekeeper’s and Peacemaker’s Day will be held on Sunday 14 September.

About the Australian Peacekeeping Memorial Project

Since 1947 there have been 66,000 Australians involved in peacekeeping globally in countries from the Middle East and Sudan to places closer to home such as East Timor.

Hundreds of Australian military and police are serving today as partners in coalition peace operations in the Sinai, Solomon Islands, Afghanistan and Iraq helping restore order and stability to communities affected by war and civil unrest.

Australia has a proud 60 year history of peacekeeping and the project is asking people to support the building of an Australian Peacekeeping Memorial on Anzac Parade in Canberra that can be a focal point on special days such as Anzac Day (25th April), UN International Day of Peacekeepers (29th May), Australian Peacekeeper’s and Peacemaker’s Day (14th September) and UN Day (24th October).

We are aiming to raise enough money to dedicate a fitting memorial to commemorate the valour, service and sacrifice of peacekeeping men and women, including the 37 who have given their lives in their service.
