The challenge for opposition AFL teams to quell the brilliance of Richmond excitement machine Shai Bolton was encapsulated by Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley following last night’s Round 21 clash between the Tigers and the Power at Adelaide Oval.
Bolton turned on another dazzling display for Richmond in its 38-point win, finishing with 17 disposals, 11 contested possessions, a game-high four marks inside 50, three inside-50s, four clearances, three tackles, four goals, a game-high 10 score involvements and 393 metres gained.
“Bit freakish what he’s able to do. He’s a damn good player,” Hinkley said in his post-match press conference.
“He’s one of the absolute best in the competition. In fact, he’s probably in the top handful in the competition with the way he plays.
“He’s had nine shots at goal tonight . . . that’s a consistent thing for him, though, for the season.
“He’s had 82 shots at goal for the season as a small forward. He, kicking straight, could be leading the Coleman Medal, which is remarkable.
“That’s a highly talented player.”
