During triple Richmond premiership star Shane Edwards’ press conference earlier this week, in the lead-up to his momentous 300-game milestone against Brisbane at the MCG on Sunday, he expressed a degree of unease with joining the list of triple Tiger centurions – Jack Dyer, Kevin Bartlett, Francis Bourke and long-time teammate Jack Riewoldt.

“It doesn't sound right or sit well with me at the moment. They’re legends of the game and people I’ve looked up to for so long,” Edwards said.

“It’s probably one of those things where I’ll look back and see my name on the list and smile. I’m honestly lost for words.”

Edwards, however, should in no way feel undeserving of being mentioned in the same breath as the other members of Richmond’s exclusive 300 club.

‘Immortal’ Tiger pair Bartlett and Bourke made that clear when speaking about Edwards’ mighty achievement.

Here’s what they had to say about him . . .

Kevin Bartlett

“Three hundred games is a fantastic milestone to get to and Shane’s been a marvellous player for the Tigers. He’s got his three premierships now, but he went through the hard times when the Tigers were down and out and it’s just great to see someone like that, who was able to stay and stick around the Club and reach this fantastic milestone.”

Francis Bourke

“Even though he’s a quieter sort of fellow, he seems to have stepped up into those important roles, as well as playing very consistently for 15 years.”
