Ben Griffiths’ athletic prowess was the eye-catching feature of a crucial goal he kicked in the frenetic last quarter of Richmond’s thrilling one-point victory over the Sydney Swans at the MCG in Round 8.
That goal has been voted the Tigers’ sixth best of the 2016 season by the Yellow and Black faithful.
Late in the final term, with Richmond trailing by 11 points, star forward Jack Riewoldt, roaming up the ground, won a contested possession and kicked the ball out into space for Griffiths to run onto.
The talented Tiger tall swooped on the ball, sprinted away from veteran Sydney defender Ted Richards, who was in hot pursuit, and even had the confidence to take a bounce. Griffiths dribbled it through for a team-lifting six-pointer – his AFL career-high fifth for the match - which set the scene for teammate Sam Lloyd to subsequently produce his match-winning heroics post the final siren.
The fourth and third goal of the year, as voted by Richmond fans, will be revealed tomorrow, Thursday September 22.
