Daniel Rioli polled maximum votes in the 2022 AFL Coaches’ Association’s Player of the Year award voting for the Round 16 Richmond v West Coast match at the MCG.
The triple premiership Tiger was given 10 out of 10 by respective coaches Damien Hardwick (Richmond) and Adam Simpson (West Coast) for a dazzling display in his new, rebounding half-back role.
Rioli finished the match with a team-high 28 disposals, five inside-50s, four rebound-50s, three clearances, four intercepts, one goal (a superb, running effort), two goal assists, an equal team-high nine score involvements, a game-high six bounces and 565 metres gained.
He was a major factor in the Tigers’ 35-point win through his quickness and slickness.
The only other Richmond player to feature in the Round 16 voting was Marlion Pickett, who was given five votes following his top-class display on a wing – an AFL career-high 25 disposals, an equal team-high 10 contested possessions, a team-high six inside-50s, three rebound-50s, seven marks, eight intercepts, an AFL career-high two goals, seven score involvements, a game-high five tackles and 463 metres gained.
