You have to go all the way back to 2000 to find an AFL team that enjoyed a more emphatic finals campaign than Richmond’s in 2017.

The Tigers won all three of their finals this year by a combined total of 135 points.

Their lowest winning margin was 36 points in the preliminary final against Greater Western Sydney at the MCG.

They accounted for Geelong by 51 points in the qualifying final, and defeated Adelaide by 48 points in the Grand Final.

Only Kevin Sheedy’s all-conquering Essendon side of 2000 won all its finals in more convincing style.

The Bombers smashed North Melbourne by 125 points in the qualifying final, beat Carlton by 45 points in the qualifying final, and then thrashed Melbourne by 60 points in the Grand Final.

Collingwood, in 2010, won its qualifying final against the Western Bulldogs by 62 points, the preliminary final v Geelong by 41 points, but then drew the Grand Final against St Kilda, before winning the GF replay by 56 points.

Geelong, in 2007, annihilated North Melbourne by 106 points in the qualifying final and crushed Port Adelaide by 119 points in the Grand Final. In the preliminary final, however, the Cats scraped home by just five points against Collingwood.
