Richmond VFL coach Steve Morris provides a summary of how the Tigers’ players performed in Saturday's Round 7 win over Port Melbourne at ETU Stadium.
Tyler Sonsie (33 disposals, four marks, five clearances)
"With 33 disposals, he was really clean in and around stoppage and his huge improvement in his defensive work over the past couple of weeks has been pleasing to see. "
Jack Ross (31 disposals, nine clearances, seven tackles)
"Played a really good game. His attack on the contest and the man was fantastic and he was outstanding around clearance."
Will Martyn (26 disposals, 10 marks, four rebound-50s)
"Has taken steps forward each and every week over the last couple of months. It was great to see him increase his offensive output and his foot skills were brilliant on the day in tough conditions."
Thomson Dow (25 disposals, six tackles, six clearances)
"His lateral movement is an absolute standout. He's engaging around contest exceptionally well and that's really helping him in winning clearances for us moving forward."
Sam Banks (23 disposals, three inside-30s, two goals)
"Played on a wing once again and his work rate really stood out. He kicked two of the better goals that you'll see at VFL footy."
Lachlan Street (23 disposals, 13 rebound-50s, eight marks)
"Continuously positioned himself well and he is in really solid form. He's a vital part of our back six."
Robbie Tarrant (20 disposals, eight marks, six rebound-60s)
"Came back and acquitted himself really well. He led the boys around him in a great manner and he's a formidable opponent for key forwards down back.
Bigoa Nyuon (18 disposals, seven marks, six spoils)
"He had some really good moments, overall he continues to show great form and promise. His intercept marking was a feature, we'd just like to see a few more big spoils which have been a feature of his game over the past few months."
Jake Aarts (17 disposals, eight tackles, four clearances)
"Continues to play the game in the right manner. He's been outstanding for us over the last three weeks and he had eight tackles again on the weekend ands hit the scoreboard as well."
Bailey Henderson (16 disposals, four marks, four inside-50s, one goal)
"Probably had his best game for the season. I thought his hands and cleanness at ground level as well as his first give were as good as I've seen it."
Nathan Oakes (15 disposals, five tackles, five inside-50s)
"We know he'll always attack the man and the ball. This was a highlight once again, but I thought his offensive impact was really pleasing."
Tyler Young (13 disposals, 32 hit-outs, five tackles, six clearances)
"Really new challenge for him in the ruck and we got some great feedback from our AFL midfielders in the way that he attacked the contest and also his ruck work in and around the ground. It was a fantastic step forward in his development."
Austin Johnson (12 disposals, four tackles, two rebound-50s)
"Played on the wing predominately and a little bit of half-back. He was really reliable, he didn't have a standout day but certainly was a valuable contributor."
Tom Brown (11 disposals, four marks)
"A super talented player who we're looking for a little bit of a spike from. He played limited minutes on the weekend and I expect to see him take steps forward with a run under his belt."
Sam Tucker (11 disposals, five marks, five goals)
"Provided a great contest for us and a focal point up forward. Most importantly, he took each and every opportunity in front of goals with really accurate kicking."
Judson Clarke (10 disposals, four inside-50s, three marks)
"His role is one that sometimes does get rewarded on the stats sheet and other times it doesn't. He certainly played his role well on the weekend, but it was just one of those days where we didn't get the reward that he does at other times."
Lachlan Johnson (10 disposals, four marks, three tackles)
"Had his first game for the football club and had a great day. He was really clean and showed great composure with the footy in his hands, and will only benefit from the run."
Ben Miller (nine disposals, four rebound-50s, two marks)
"It was an interesting day for our key backs with very few tall forwards, which was challenge for Ben, but we'd like to see his contest work improve over the next couple of weeks, which we know he's capable of."
Jack Sexton (nine disposals, five tackles, two goals)
"I thought he had a really good game. He's really bought into our culture and our system. He tackles hard and he does the little things on defence, and was also rewarded with two goals."
Matt Parker (seven disposals, four marks, two goals)
"Hit the scoreboard hard early on in the game and brought his trademark defensive actions. Unfortunately, he hurt himself early on in the game and took no further part, but we're hoping he recovers quickly from his ankle injury."
Noah Cumberland (seven tackles, five tackles, three goals)
"He hit the scoreboard which is really important in his role. I feel as though he can step up his defensive actions, which is a highlight of his game when he's firing on all cylinders."
Nick Guiney (seven, four marks, three rebound-50s)
"He was really solid once again. We asked him to play on Singorello in the second half when he was looking like Port Melbourne's most dangerous forward, and he blanketed him really well and did a great job for the team."
