Speedy, skilful, young Richmond small defender Jayden Short has provided an interesting insight into two of his talented Tiger cub teammates in Oleg Markov and Daniel Rioli.

Markov was unlucky not to receive an AFL Rising Star nomination this week for his excellent display as a rebounding defender against Collingwood at the MCG last Friday night, while Rioli has shown some truly exciting glimpses of the considerable football ability he possesses throughout his first season at the game’s highest level.

“Oleg’s got a spring in his step like I’ve never seen,” Short said on ‘Sports Day’.

“He can just run like the wind.

“That’s what he did on the weekend (last Friday night v Collingwood) and he’s been doing since he’s been in the AFL team.

“I remember an instance in the VFL . . . he just ran down the whole wing and kicked a goal.

“He can turn a game on, I tell you that.

“He’s got so much confidence . . .

“It’s the same with Daniel (Rioli).

“He takes the game on as much as anyone else, he loves kicking a snag (goal), and he’s a little tackling machine.

“So they’re both great.”
