Triple Richmond premiership defender Nathan Broad has been rewarded for what, arguably, was the best performance of his AFL career against St Kilda at Marvel Stadium yesterday, with seven votes in the 2022 AFL Coaches’ Association’s Champion Player of the Year Round 3 voting.
Broad was the only Tiger to poll votes following the team’s 33-point loss.
The 28-year-old veteran of 87 games for the Tigers was superb across the four quarters, finishing the match with an equal AFL career-high 25 disposals, game-high/career-high 12 marks, game-high/ career-high 11 intercepts, game-high/equal career-high seven rebound-50s, seven one-percenters and 508 metres gained.
He stood tall in the absence of injured star defender Nick Vlastuin and co-captain Dylan Grimes, who was sidelined with a hamstring issue during the third quarter of the contest.
