Star Richmond midfielder Monique Conti has kicked off the 2022 season in sensational style, with a perfect 10 in the Round 1 voting for the 2022 AFL Coaches’ Association’s AFLW Champion Player of the Year award.

It was a clean sweep vote-wise for the Tigers, who claimed a 38-point season opener win over St Kilda last Friday night.

Twenty-two-year-old Conti was prolific in the victory, finishing with 29 disposals, nine clearances, seven tackles, and 17 contested possessions.

Speaking to Channel 7 after the match, Conti said having a full pre-season uninterrupted by WNBL commitments had made a "huge difference".

"It's really good turning up to the Club most days of the week and just being around the girls and having more of an impact, it's a good feeling," she said.

"We‘ve started off well so hopefully we can consistently play like this and keep lifting our standards."

Conti was well-supported in the midfield by Tessa Lavey, who received eight votes for her strong Round 1 performance, which included 19 disposals and two marks.

Courtney Wakefield (nine disposals, six marks, two goals), skipper Katie Brennan (12 disposals, six tackles, three marks and two goals) and Meagan Kiely (11 disposals, five tackles and two goals) combined for six goals and polled three votes apiece, an impressive nod to Kiely who was playing in her debut AFLW match.

Rounding out the Round 1 vote-getters were Gabby Seymour (two votes - 15 disposals, 13 hit-outs, five tackles) and Sarah D'Arcy (one vote - nine disposals, four marks, two tackles)
